A 43-year-old woman was arrested this morning after she allegedly lifted an elderly man’s wallet in the 7300 block of Colorado 2 in Commerce City.

Melonie Montoya was taken to police headquarters where she will stay until transported to Adams County Detention Facility for investigation of crimes against the elderly and robbery.

Commerce City police spokeswoman Lanissa Blevens said the woman asked the victim for money yesterday and he gave her a small amount of cash.

Today, she again approached asking for money and when he said he didn't have any, she grabbed his wallet and ran.

Blevens said the man was able to hail a passing police officer, but not being able to speak, was able to write down what happened.

Other units in the area spotted a woman fitting the description of the woman.
