Grand Junction man injured when crane snaps
Published March 9, 2007 at midnight
A construction worker was critically injured this morning when a crane arm snapped and fell on him at a parking garage being built in downtown Grand Junction.
The Grand Junction Sentinel reports the injured worker appeared conscious and communicating with firefighters when he was put into an ambulance.
"There was a big noise and we all dove and jumped out of the way," a worker told the newspaper.
Monique Serra, president of Alpine Trust, whose office is right across the street, said she heard the crane crack and looked out her window.
"The guy saw it coming. He tried to get down but couldn't get down fast enough. It was horrible," she said.
He was trapped between the crane and a riser he was working on, and fellow workers rushed to free him.
