Stastny ties NHL record
Published March 8, 2007 at midnight
BUFFALO, N.Y. Avalanche center Paul Stastny tied the NHL rookie record for longest point streak tonight with an assist on Milan Hejduk's goal at 9:58 of the first period of the Avs' game with the Buffalo Sabres.
The point ran his streak to 17 games, tying the mark Teemu Selanne set with the Winnipeg Jets in 1992-93.
Stastny now owns the franchise rookie record he had shared with his father, Peter Stastny (16 games in 1980-81 for the Quebec Nordiques).
He will attempt to set the NHL record Sunday, when the Avalanche visits Minnesota (1 p.m. MDT).
