Rockies first pitch

GAME DAY
Former Rockies catcher JD Closser was behind the plate for Milwaukee on Wednesday and went 1-for-3 with a double, walk and strikeout. . . . Catcher Javier Lopez threw out Geoff Jenkins, who was attempting to steal second after singling home a run in the sixth, the first baserunner Lopez has thrown out in nine opportunities. . . . The Rockies lead all teams in stolen bases, with 13, this spring training. They have been thrown out only twice. . . . First baseman Todd Helton, who came out of the game Tuesday after two at-bats as a designated hitter and didn't play Wednesday, is in the preliminary lineup for today. Helton has some inflammation in his right knee.
FIT FINLEY
Center fielder Steve Finley, who agreed to terms with the Rockies 12 days ago, has not shown any signs of slowing, even though he will turn 42 on Monday. He has a hit in four of his five games, including a standup triple Wednesday. He is in line to be the backup center fielder and a left-handed bat off the bench.
"I didn't know him (until this spring) except to watch him from the other dugout," manager Clint Hurdle said. "He was always a professional player. . . . There's definitely life in that body. He's been one of the best defenders in the game for a while."
HE SAID IT
"I feel comfortable with Brian (Fuentes, as the closer). The reasons are he has the proper focus, the confidence his teammates have in him, and he doesn't rattle."
Hurdle on Fuentes, who pitched an inning Wednesday after being scratched from the game Sunday because of a back spasm.
