NUMBERS GAME

50 games that center Marcus Camby has played this season, assuring him a minimum contract bonus of $500,000. Other total bonuses for games played are $1 million for 55, $1.5 million for 60 and $2 million for 65.

SURPRISE START

With Carmelo Anthony out because of the birth of his first child, coach George Karl unveiled a surprise starting forward Wednesday at Golden State.

"I thought I'd probably see some minutes, but not start," sparingly used DerMarr Johnson said.

Karl called it a "reward" for fine practice play. Johnson admitted it has been a frustrating season but has "been doing better" with it lately.

FACE TO FACE

Forward Reggie Evans, who played Wednesday after not appearing in four of five games, requested a meeting early this week with Karl. Evans called it a "man-to-man talk" but wouldn't elaborate.

"We were both smiling afterward," Evans said.

Karl also wouldn't elaborate, saying he "answered his questions, (and Evans) was very good."

MARTIN'S REHAB

Forward Kenyon Martin, out for the season after November knee surgery, has been working out on a stationary bike and lifting. He's been rehabbing in Denver as well as at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles.

"So I don't sit around and go crazy; it's a change of scenery," he said.
