Investigation begins into industrial fatality

Published March 8, 2007 at midnight

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is on the scene of an industrial accident in Loveland that claimed the life of a 44-year-old tow truck driver today.

Rae Bontz, spokesman for the Loveland Police Department, said the accident happened about 10 a.m. this morning when the tow truck driver from JC Service and the owner of ACA Transportation attempting to load a skid loader onto a flatbed tow truck.

The bed of the truck was inclined as the driver, whose name is being withheld, guided the loader onto the bed. As the driver stopped on the bed, the tow driver crawled underneath the bucket to secure the loader with chains.

For some reason, the bucket dropped, striking the victim on the head and killing him.
