Style Matters: Chic discoveries in new boutiques

Published March 8, 2007 at midnight

Style Matters: It's raining new boutiques in Denver, and that's good news for us and our fellow fashionistas. Here's the lowdown on these high-quality emporiums:

EveyK Boutique

Location: 100 S. Madison St., 303-399-0903

Sizes: 4-12

Originally from California, Evelyn Knuckles left her public relations job with the NFL, moved to Colorado and opened her store with the goal of providing Colorado women with moderately priced ($40-$350), little- known, hip L.A. brands for the fashion-savvy.

Look for lines by Belle Kat, YanaK and Royal Plush. The shop has a good denim bar that showcases Grass, Denim for Immorality and J & Co. Jewelry starts at $40 and includes silver pieces from popular local designer Cyndy Everett and actress Tatum O'Neal.

Clotheshorse Boutique

Location:10125 W. San Juan Way, Littleton, 303-933- 7777

Sizes: 0-14

Owned by Sheila Aud and Debbie O'Neil, Clotheshorse is a well-kept secret. Sorry, ladies who live in or near Ken Caryl Ranch and Columbine, we are putting the word out to everybody about Clotheshorse. With its great selection of denim jeans such as Joe's, Christopher Blue and Brazil Roxx ($78-$350), Komarov separates and Suzi Roher belts, this place is a real find. Plus, prices are always "really good" (read: less of a markup) - we can't say more, wink, wink!

Our favorite item: Onesole sandals. These sandals have interchangeable, wide neoprene straps, perfect for travel. Buy one pair with the standard black strap and pick out two others from a large collection of florals, patterns and animal prints. For $100 you get three pairs of shoes. And are they comfy!

Cali & Mo

Location: 500 16th St., 303-892- 1200

Size range varies

If you're downtown, visit these two boutiques (see Lilly Partain below) in the Pavilions. Owners Vicki Raichart and Allison Leyn got the name for their store from their birth states, California and Missouri. Cute, huh? The merchandise is a mix of carefully selected vintage and new clothing and accessories. Sizes range from tiny vintage dresses to plus-size coats. Sizing is not exact, so if you see something you like, try it on.

Cali and Mo has new merchandise from lines such as Sugar Lips and Garment Touch. The store also carries a great selection of cropped blazers. Look for Cali & Mo brand blazers with vintage buttons and fabrics that put a new twist on classic styling. Prices range from $16 tees to $200 coats; no consignments.

Lilly Partain

Location: 500 16th St., 303-892- 1200

Sizes: 0-18

Across the hall is Lilly Partain, also owned by Raichart and Leyn. For this store's appellation they each picked one of their grandmothers' names. Raichart and Leyn wanted a boutique that was moderately priced, current and funky. Mission accomplished.

The store carries new styles from all over the world including Chaundry (L.A.), Pile au Face (France) and Ananonza (England). Lines are selected with an eye toward fitting women of all body types. Prices range from $27 for a scarf to $359 for a coat.

Style Matters hosts the first Fashion Project, a fashion design competition for Colorado designers with proceeds benefiting Dress for Success Denver, 7 p.m. April 4, 11, 18 and 25 at Tamarac Square; fashionprojecttamarac.com.
