Add dad to Carmelo Anthony's résumé.

The Denver Nuggets' star forward became a father at 1:35 p.m. Wednesday when his fiancee, La La Vazquez, gave birth to the couple's first child at Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree.

The couple chose the name Kiyan (pronounced kigh-ANN) for their son, who weighed in at 5 pounds, 9 ounces and is 18 1/2 inches long.

Melo, mom and baby are doing well, according to Nuggets officials, who said the couple is not yet ready to release photos of the little one.

Anthony, 22, did not make the trip to Oakland, Calif., for the Nuggets' game with Golden State on Wednesday night. Anthony's agent, Calvin Andrews, said Melo's mother, Mary, is in Denver, along with other friends and family.

"Everything went well," he said of the birth, adding that he expects Anthony to be in the lineup when the Nuggets host the Detroit Pistons on Friday night at the Pepsi Center.

Coach George Karl offered some words of wisdom for his young superstar: "My advice is take care of the mom. Young men have a tendency of forgetting how tough of a job it is to carry a baby and be responsible. Her life is going to change probably a little bit more, maybe a lot more, than Melo's life is going to change."
