Carroll is elected to skating hall of fame
Frank Carroll, who coached Michelle Kwan and Linda Fratianne and now works with U.S. men's champion Evan Lysacek, has been elected to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs.
NCAA MEET BEGINS The University of Colorado cross country ski team will seek to repeat as national champion, but the University of Denver will be striving for a 19th national title when the NCAA Championships start today in Jackson, N.H.
KIM LEADS BUFFALOES Julie Kim carded a three-round total of 220 to spark the CU women's golf team to a second-place tie at the San Jose (Calif.) State Spartan Invitational tournament.
The Buffaloes tied for second with California, 15 strokes behind winner San Jose State.
Kim finished in a tie for third individually with California's Allison Goodman and San Jose State's Erica Moston.
Chelsea Benton shot 226 to help Colorado State to an eighth-place finish.
CU GOLFERS FIFTH Michael Baird shot a three-round 212 to power the CU men's golf team to a fifth- place finish at the Louisiana Classics tournament in Lafayette, La.
The Buffaloes finished 14 shots behind winner Southeastern Louisiana.
RAMS, PIONEERS STRUGGLE Dustin Morris shot a three-round 216 to help the CSU men's golf team to a ninth-place finish at the Callaway Invitational tournament in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
The Rams finished 17 shots behind winner San Diego State.
The DU men's golf team finished in 10th place, led by a 215 from Jeff Koprivetz.
FAZEKAS IN MIX University of Nevada men's basketball forward Nick Fazekas, a Ralston Valley High School graduate, is one of 22 candidates for the Wooden Award.
In other honors:
DU midfielder Kristie Leggio has been named the women's lacrosse player of the week by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
CU sophomore Monica Milewski was named the women's tennis player of the week by the Big 12 Conference.
CU STREAKING The CU women's tennis team rose 13 places to No. 30 nationally in the latest Fila/Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, helped by last weekend's upset victory against No. 14 Baylor.
The DU men's team moved up 16 spots to No. 43 and the Pioneers women's team improved seven positions to No. 46.
MESA STATE ADDS COACH Josh Pittman has been hired as the men's soccer coach at Mesa State, leading the program into its inaugural season.
Pittman last served as a coach for the Real Colorado youth program and also served as an assistant men's coach at Metro State.
