MOTHERS' MILK BANK
RUNNING ON EMPTY
Mothers who are in good health, don't smoke or take medication and have babies younger than 6 months old are needed to donate milk to the Mothers' Milk Bank at Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center. Milk-bank director Laraine Lockhart Borman says the agency's freezers are bare. Interested mothers may call the milk bank at 303-869-1888.
THE ROCKY ROAD TO PREGNANCY
Pigging out on Cherry Garcia might increase a woman's waistline in more ways than one. The Nurses' Health Study II assessed the diet selections of 18,555 women attempting to become pregnant over an eight-year period. The researchers found:
27% reduction in ovulation-related infertility among women who ate at least one serving of high-fat dairy food a day, compared with women who ate only low-fat dairy products.
85% increase in ovulation- related infertility in women who ate two or more portions of low-fat dairy foods a day compared with women who ate less than one portion a week.
