Metro, Adams State get regional rematch

The third-seeded Metro State men's basketball team (27-3) will play Adams State (16-13), in the first round of the NCAA Division II North Central Regional at 1:30 p.m. MST Saturday in Winona, Minn.

The teams played Sunday in the title game of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Shootout, with the Roadrunners winning 70-60.

Fort Lewis (22-8) will play in the regional's first round, facing Minnesota State (26-4) at 11 a.m. MST Saturday.

The fourth-seeded Regis women's team (25-5) also will find a rematch against its RMAC Shootout championship game opponent, Metro State (24-6), in the first round of their NCAA North Central Regional in Grand Forks, N.D.

The teams will meet at noon MST Friday. The Rangers won 76-62 to earn the RMAC title Sunday.

PLAINSMEN ROLL Northeastern Junior College forward Shane Edwards recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds to help the Sterling-based Plainsmen (30-1) to a 74-48 victory against Miles Community College, of Miles City, Mont., in the second round of the National Junior College Athletic Association's Region IX tournament in Scottsbluff, Neb.

PIONEERS DROP The University of Denver hockey team tumbled four spots in both national polls released.

The Pioneers (21-13-4) fell from sixth to 10th in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll and fell from seventh to 11th in the U.S. College Hockey Online poll.

Colorado College (17-15-4) rose one spot to 16th in the

USCHO.com poll after a 1-0-1 weekend against DU.

Notre Dame (27-6-3) remained first in both polls.

EMOND HONORED Colorado Eagles goaltender Marco Emond was named the goalie of the week by the Central Hockey League after saving 62 of 64 shots in two victories last week.

In another honor:

Colorado State senior Aaron Weston, a Highlands Ranch High School graduate, shared the Mountain West Conference men's golfer-of-the- month award with Nevada-Las Vegas junior Jarred Texter.

CU STARTS TOUGH Lindsay Caljouw and Dominique Pytlewski, each with a two-round total of 147, have helped the University of Colorado women's golf team into second place at the San

Jose (Calif.) State Spartan Invitational.

Chelsea Benton has carded a two-round 149 to help the CSU women's team into 10th place.
