Vail plans $1 billion mixed-use village
Published March 5, 2007 at midnight
BROOMFIELD Vail Resorts Inc. announced plans for a $1 billion "green" development on a 9.5-acre site at the western end of its flagship ski resort.
Called Ever Vail, the multi-use village will include residences, a hotel, offices, retail shops and dining establishments. A public parking garage and a gondola to the ski runs are also planned.
Vail Resorts CEO Rob Katz said the redevelopment of land in West LionsHead will involve cleaning up a former gas station and other industrial operations. The buildings will be certified to meet certain environmental standards.
"This is clearly our most ambitious green building project to date," Katz said at a press conference at the companys corporate headquarters at the Interlocken complex here.
The company will submit formal plans to local Vails town council for approval soon. It expects to begin selling residential units in 2009.
Plans call for between 75 and 125 wholly owned condominiums, with roughly 75 to 125 fractional-ownership condos. A hotel of up to 150,000 square feet is also part of the proposed project.
