That's cool!, March 5

SmartShopper

A shopping list organizer and assistant

• What it does: Uses voice recognition technology to help you set up your grocery list. Mount the unit on your refrigerator (it has magnets) or a wall, hit record, speak into the unit and it will compile (and then organize by group, i.e., dairy) your list.

• Features: Has an internal library of hundreds of items. Also includes a coupon feature so you can highlight items you have coupons for. Includes a printing function (it comes with three rolls of paper) so you can print your list and take it to the store.

• Verdict: A handy tool and fun, but it takes some getting used to. Not every item at the store is in the unit's library, though you can enter items that are not stored in the memory. And it may take a few tries before the unit can distinguish the item you're telling it to select - enunciation is important. It likely will take you longer to use this product than it would take to simply write down your list - at least initially - but writing out your list doesn't have the cool factor, or the automatic organization.
