Former England soccer captain David Beckham will undergo tests today to assess a potentially "serious" knee injury, Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello said.
Beckham, who is joining the Los Angeles Galaxy at the end of the season, got injured during the second half of Madrids 1- 1 home tie against Getafe in the Spanish league yesterday.
The 31-year-old midfielder damaged ligaments in his right knee, Capello said on the clubs Web site. Beckham and Jose Antonio Reyes, who also injured a knee, are sure to miss this weeks Champions League match at Bayern Munich, the coach said.
"Its certain that they will not play against Bayern," Capello was quoted saying by Agence-France Presse. "Reyess injury is serious. Beckhams could be just as significant."
Knee injuries are among the most problematic for soccer players. England striker Michael Owen hasnt played since rupturing a cruciate ligament at the World Cup in June.
Beckham signed a five-year contract worth as much as $250 million to join the Galaxy of Major League Soccer after his Madrid contact expires June 30.
