Thoman is one glass act as Highlands Ranch romps

Jaclyn Thoman has earned her reputation as a scorer and a playmaker.
The reigning All-Colorado girls basketball player of the year, who will play for Boston College next season, runs the show for Highlands Ranch.
Friday night, she did her best Dennis Rodman impersonation. No, Thoman did not kick a courtside cameraman or unveil 40 new piercings.
But she did grab an unexpected 13 rebounds in the Falcons' 74-55 win against Arapahoe in the Class 5A state quarterfinals at the Denver Coliseum.
"I think I just had a mental approach to where if we get the boards, that'll transition right into our offense and help us score much more," said -Tho- man, who led the Falcons with 20 points.
The Falcons (23-3), who also received 18 points from Alyssa Fressle, kept alive ambitions for a second consecutive state title by beating the Continental League-rival Warriors (19- 7) for the second time this season.
Highlands Ranch will meet Horizon in the semifinals Wednesday in a rematch of the state championship game last year.
"I asked her to go in there and be 'Jac' finally," Falcons coach Caryn Jarocki said. "Thirteen rebounds is awesome."
Highlands Ranch darted to a 30-22 halftime lead and began the second half with a 21-3 burst to push the advantage to 26. The regular-season matchup was much closer, as Highlands Ranch won 70-62 behind 26 points from Fressle.
"The kids played hard, but we just couldn't stop their break," Arapahoe coach Ron Burgin said. "We knew going into the game that if you make Highlands Ranch play a half- court offense, you can play with them. If you let them get layups, you can't."
Sophomore Amy Barczuk led Arapahoe with 25 points, including 21 in the second half, before fouling out with 3:55 remaining.
"I don't think we played much different than the first time," Thoman said. "Our defense rotated and helped a little better, but I just think we were really pumped."
