As if moving past his uncle in the record books weren't enough, Avalanche center Paul Stastny is the NHL's Rookie of the Month for February, the league said today.
The University of Denver product on Thursday (a 6-1 win at Chicago) extended his points-scoring streak to 14 games, surpassing the 13-game streak his uncle Marian compiled with Quebec in 1981. Paul Stastny's father, Peter, set the Avalanche/Quebec franchise record by registering a point in 16 consecutive games in 1980.
In February, Paul Stastny led all NHL rookies with 19 points on eight goals and 11 assists in 14 games. He was chosen for the award over Pittsburgh center Evgeni Malkin (16 points, five goals, 11 assists in 13 games), Los Angeles center Anze Kopitar (10/2/8, 12), Philadelphia defenseman Alexandre Picard (11/1/10, 13) and Pittsburgh center Jordan Staal (10/1/9, 13).
