Mammoth's goalie gets defensive honor

Colorado Mammoth goaltender Gee Nash has been named the National Lacrosse League's defensive player of the week.

Nash turned away 38 shots and allowed only six goals in the Mammoth's 13-7 home win against the Portland LumberJax on Saturday.

RAGE WINS John DiPace scored twice and had an assist for the Rocky Mountain Rage in a 5-2 Central Hockey League win against the Lubbock Cotton Kings at the Broomfield Event Center.

CSU'S SMITH PICKED Colorado State forward Jason Smith was named to the All-District team announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Smith, a 7-foot junior from Kersey, was joined on the first team by Ralston Valley High School graduate Nick Fazekas of Nevada, San Diego State's Brandon Heath, Keena Young from Brigham Young and Dan Nwaelele of Air Force.

In other honors:

University of Colorado's Susie Powers, Jackie McFarland and Caley Dow have been selected to the Academic All-Big 12 women's basketball first team, while senior Courtney Wallace was named to the second team.

Adams State 125-pounder Arsenia Barksdale was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's freshman of the year.

Also making the all-conference team were Marques Bravo, Camille Dupont, Zach Lee, Larry Wilbanks, Charlie Pipher, Lars Lueders and Eddie Lopez of Western State; Garrett Eller of Colorado School of Mines; and Joey Deaguero, James Reynolds, Jared Deaguero, Casey Woodall, Mike Gallegos and Evan Copeland of Adams State.

Colorado Mines sophomore Taylor Cayou, a Green Mountain High School graduate, and CU-Colorado Springs first baseman Lindsay Shandera were named the RMAC softball pitcher and player of the week.

Mesa State's Keith Nelson, of Erie, was named the RMAC baseball pitcher of the week.

Carroll College senior Nathan Drury, a Littleton High School graduate, was named the Midwest Conference men's basketball player of the year.

CU-Colorado Springs senior Patrick Hannaway was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America men's basketball first team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced.

HOCKEY TIME CHANGE Air Force's playoff game in the Atlantic Hockey Association quarterfinals against Holy Cross on March 10 at the Cadet Ice Arena has been rescheduled to 7:35 p.m.
