Metrolist opening data bank to aid state investigation

Published March 1, 2007 at midnight

Metrolist Inc. on Wednesday said it has agreed to open up its real estate data bank, called the multiple listing service, or MLS, to help the Colorado Division of Real Estate investigate potential appraisal inflation, loan fraud and an excessive mortgage foreclosure rate.

Metrolist agreed to let the division access the data after its director, Erin Toll, signed a subpoena requesting the information. Metrolist did not contest the subpoena in court, and the subpoena will need to be renewed every quarter, Toll said.

"As an advocate for ethical real estate practices, we fully appreciate the importance of the state's investigation into the possible reasons for excessive foreclosure rates in the market," Pat Bybe, the CEO of Metrolist, said in a statement.
