Dahlia: Stars align for children

What: Inaugural Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation Mardi Gras Masquerade
Held: Feb. 9 at the Denver Athletic Club
Details: About 250 patrons raised more than $20,000 to support seriously ill children at the Mardi Gras-themed benefit. Guests wore masks and beads, sampled sinful libations and fare, psychic and tarot card readings and danced to zydeco music by Rhythm Method. A silent auction featured a trip to Jazz Fest in New Orleans and Mardi Gras masks painted by children from the foundation.
King and queen: Event chairman Brett Shrewsbury was crowned king, honoring his recognition as the foundation's International Volunteer of the Year. Ashley McGhee, a Masquerade committee member and sponsor of this year's event, was crowned queen.
Additional sponsors: Hyde Park, ICON Advisers, Strategic Financial Partners, The Goddard School, ExamOne of Colorado, Denver Athletic Club, Barefoot Wine and Wynkoop Brewing Co.
Masquerade patrons: Foundation Executive Director Kim Schultz, President Chris Bracken, development associate Cathy Choy and committee members including the king and queen, Ryan Hargis, Jen and Phil Jacobson, Jamie Reddig, Ryan Renz, Sarah Ritter, Holly Shrewsbury, Dawn Sierens, Betsy Simons, Molly Simons, Kelly Titterington, Kyle Underwood and Nate Zettle.
Take a seat: Proceeds from a new project, the Charity Chair, developed with Khaos Design firm, headquartered in Guatemala City, will help sick children and their families in the U.S. and abandoned elderly citizens in Guatemala. Fifty KSD-2 designer chairs will be made to sell at a base price of $2,500. See the chair at khaosdesign.com.
