Civil rights champions: honored for their leadership and achievements in civil and human rights

William "Bill" Hosokawa, an award-winning Colorado journalist who documented his experiences and those of other Japanese Americans in internment camps during World War II

Former Mayor and U.S. Secretary of Energy and Transportation Federico Peña, who has worked to build a society that respects diversity and rejects prejudice and divisiveness, most recently in the debate over immigration reform. He began his career as a civil rights attorney, served in the Colorado General Assembly and is a managing partner at Vestar Capital Partners.

Selection committee: ADL's Mountain States Region Civil Rights Committee Co-Chairmen and ADL board members Scott Levin and Nancy Levine, who introduced Peña.

Fun fact: Gov. Bill Ritter explained he and Hosokawa are "sort of" related. Hosokawa's granddaughter is married to Ritter's godson.
