Suspect sent to state mental health institute

Published August 31, 2007 at midnight

Kenton Astin, the suspect who allegedly slashed the throat of a University of Colorado student this week in Boulder, was transferred to the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo on Thursday.

Astin, 39, had been recovering from self-inflicted stab wounds at Boulder Community Hospital, where he was taken Monday after he allegedly attacked CU freshman Michael Knorps with a knife. He was not booked into the Boulder County Jail prior to his transfer to the state's mental hospital.
