Hooves, horns, hides and hoopla

With just six wins between them last season, the Colorado State Rams and the University of Colorado Buffaloes aren't exactly football powerhouses.
Even broadcasters don't think much of the teams' long-running rivalry, as evidenced by the Rocky Mountain Showdown's 10 a.m. time slot Saturday on Fox Sports Net.
While CU leads the series 57-19-2, both teams are desperate for a victory to kick off the season. CSU took honors last year, with a 14-10 win.
But the Buffs-Rams matchup isn't all about gridiron glory.
CU fans might be surprised to find out that CSU actually offers more vegetarian entrees in its dining halls than the rival school based in one of the nation's healthiest communities.
On the flip side, although one of CSU's civil engineering professors was a founder of the Peace Corps, CU still boasts more Peace Corps volunteers.

Cam vs. Ralphie
Bighorn sheep: Weighs 125 to 300 pounds, stands 3 to 3 1/2 feet tall at the shoulder, runs in battle at speeds of 20 mph to 45 mph. Skilled at climbing, jumping and scaling cliffs. Can withstand hourslong head-butting contests.
American bison: Weighs from 900 to 2,000 pounds, stands more than 6 feet tall at the shoulder and can run at speeds of up to 35 mph. Suffers from poor eyesight but has sharp hearing and an excellent sense of smell.
CSU EVENTS
When and where: TODAY: noon to 1 p.m., Skyline Park, 16th Street Mall, Denver; 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., LoDo's Bar and Grill, 1946 Market St., Denver.
SATURDAY: 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., Colorado State Alumni Association's pregame tailgate at Invesco Field at Mile High.
CU EVENTS
When and where: TODAY: 11:45 a.m., Galleria at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, 14th and Curtis streets, Denver.
Free hot dogs, chips and soft drinks will be served before the rally at 11 a.m.
