NUMBERS GAME
35 consecutive games Matt Holliday has reached base, equaling a Rockies record and the third-longest streak in the majors this year. Kevin Millar of the Orioles had a 52-game streak that ended Sunday and Jeff Kent of the Dodgers had a 39-game streak that ended Aug. 7. For the Rockies, Larry Walker had a 35-game streak in 2002 and Todd Helton had a 35-game streak last season.
TUNEUP
Right-handed pitcher Aaron Cook (pulled left rib cage muscle) will pitch for Triple-A Colorado Springs on Saturday in a final tuneup before being activated and rejoining the Rockies rotation Sept. 7.
Cook will step in to Elmer Dessens' spot against San Diego at Coors Field.
"Normally, he would be having two" minor league starts, but the Sky Sox's season ends Monday, manager Clint Hurdle said.
"This makes sense," said Cook, who said there was no residual problem from a batting-practice session he threw Tuesday. "I'll go down there, throw a few more pitches and be ready to go."
HE SAID IT
"We've seen him a lot. We know how he pitches."
Garrett Atkins, Rockies third baseman, on the familiarity with Giants left-hander Noah Lowry, who had limited Atkins to four singles in 21 career at-bats before Atkins homered in back-to-back at-bats against him Wednesday.
