CANADIAN GYMNAST OUT Olympic floor champion Kyle Shewfelt won't compete at the World Gymnastics Championships in Germany after breaking bones in both legs during training.
BUCKS SIGN YI The Milwaukee Bucks signed Yi Jianlian, the sixth pick in June's NBA draft, after a lengthy negotiation with the Chinese forward.
MAYOR DENIES REPORT Mayor Mick Cornett said the suggestion Oklahoma City officials have spoken with members of the Seattle SuperSonics' ownership group about a possible move is "preposterous."
DUQUESNE PLAYER LEAVES Robert Mitchell, a 6-foot-6 forward who was the Atlantic 10 Conference rookie of the year last season, has left the Duquesne basketball team and plans to transfer to another school.
PATRICK PRACTICES Tailback Allen Patrick went through about half of Oklahoma's practice and might be able to start Saturday against North Texas.
Patrick missed more than two weeks of practice while recovering from a sprained ankle.

Tennessee quarterback Erik Ainge has a broken pinkie on his throwing hand but is expected to play Saturday at No. 12 California.
No. 6 Florida will be without left tackle Phil Trautwein for Saturday's opener against Western Kentucky and he might be out for the season with a stress fracture.
Alabama nose guard Brian Motley broke his left ankle and will miss six to eight weeks.
BECKHAM LEAVES GAME David Beckham left the field in the 30th minute of the Los Angeles Galaxy's SuperLiga final in Carson, Calif., against Pachuca after spraining his right knee.
ZOTINCA SUSPENDED Chivas USA defender Alex Zotinca was fined $1,250 and suspended three games by Major League Soccer for head-butting Galaxy midfielder Kevin Harmse on Aug. 23.
CANADA TOPS MEXICO Levon Kendall and Denham Brown, two former Big East Conference players, had double-doubles in Canada's 97-80 victory over Mexico at the FIBA Americas tournament in Las Vegas.
Lincoln High School graduate Hector Hernandez scored eight points for Mexico.

Elias Ayuso scored 25 points, 16 in the first half, as Puerto Rico beat Venezuela 92-63.
Argentina, which trailed by 17 points early in the second half, scored the last six points of regulation and beat Brazil 86-79 in overtime to remain unbeaten.
CHAMP RACE CANCELED The promoters of the season-ending Champ Car World Series event Dec. 2 in Phoenix have canceled the inaugural event because of a lack of sponsor support.
HEART AILMENT CAUSE Amy Marie Moxie, a Clemson swimmer who collapsed while jogging, died from a heart ailment that likely couldn't have been detected beforehand.
WORLD CYCLING MOVES The German cycling union selected drug-tainted Erik Zabel for the upcoming World Championship in Stuttgart, Germany.
Also, Spanish rider Alejandro Valverde was banned from the event after cycling's world governing body concluded he might have violated doping rules.
