Three keys
Key moments in the Rockies' 3-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park on Tuesday night:
1 Twice Omar Vizquel sacrificed Rajal Davis to third base, and both times Randy Winn drove in the run. Winn had an infield single off the glove of shortstop Troy Tulowitzki in the third and a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
2 Cory Sullivan led off the sixth with a single, and the Rockies had runners on first and second with one out in the inning, but Tulowitzki popped up on the first pitch Matt Cain threw him and after Matt Holliday walked, Todd Helton flied to left.
3 Cain threw a called third strike past Yorvit Torrealba in the second and Ryan Spilborghs in the seventh, stranding a runner on second in both innings.
Etc.
Right-hander Ramon Ramirez, currently with Triple-A Colorado Springs, has been slowed by a strained forearm. He hasn't pitched in a week. Right-hander Ryan Speier has hit a rough spot in his season. He has allowed nine earned runs in 7 2/3 innings of eight appearances in August. . . . Third baseman Garrett Atkins' second-inning error on a Rich Aurilia groundball was the Rockies' first in four games. Rockies fielders have committed a major league- low 60 errors. . . . Right fielder Brad Hawpe went into Tuesday averaging an RBI every 4.7 at-bats, second best ratio in the NL to the 3.9 for Philadelphia first baseman Ryan Howard. Barry Bonds of the Giants, Chase Utley of Philadelphia and Prince Fielder of Milwaukee had ratios of 4.8, tied for third. . . . Hawpe's sacrifice bunt Monday night was his first in the majors and only the fourth of his professional career. He had three sacrifice bunts with Colorado Springs in 2004. . . . Left fielder Holliday threw out Pedro Feliz, who was trying to score from second base on Kevin Frandsen's two-out single in the sixth inning. It was Holliday's sixth assist of the season, two shy of his personal high set last year. . . . Giants center fielder Davis went 2-for-3 with one walk and two runs, equaling the hit total for his previous 22 at-bats.
