Pastors mum on meeting with Haggard

Published August 29, 2007 at midnight

Little is known about the outcome of a meeting Tuesday in Phoenix between fallen preacher Ted Haggard and his spiritual overseers.

Mike Ware and a second overseer, the Rev. Tim Ralph, of New Covenant Fellowship in Larkspur, flew to Phoenix to meet with Haggard, while two other panel members joined via teleconference.

At issue is the revelation that Haggard asked supporters last week to give him tax-deductible donations via a Monument- based nonprofit, Families with a Mission, run by Paul Gerard Huberty, a twice-convicted sex offender.

"It went well," was all Ware, the head of the four-member panel of ministers overseeing Haggard's spiritual restoration, said after the meeting.

He declined to comment further, saying the overseers would release a statement today.

In his fundraising plea, Haggard said he was looking for contributions to support him and his wife for two years while they seek counseling degrees.
