12 years for beau who ran over woman twice

Published August 29, 2007 at midnight

EAGLE — A 46-year-old man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for running over his girlfriend twice with his pickup and leaving her disabled, the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reported today.

Eagle County District Attorney Mark Hurlbert said Modesto Lujan, 46, of McCoy, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault.

The unidentified woman has had three surgeries on her legs and is unable to work, Hurlbert told the Sentinel.

"She can really barely walk, and this has caused a significant change in her life," Hurlbert said.

On Oct. 17, Lujan and his girlfriend, then 55, argued as they were driving on Colorado River Road west of Colorado 131, the Sentinel reported. Lujan pulled over and the couple fought, authorities said.

Lujan then got back in the pickup and ran over the woman twice, authorities said.
