Stretches can soothe neck pain
Published August 28, 2007 at midnight
Here are some exercises and stretches that not only will help your posture but may relieve that nagging pain in the neck:
Head rotation: Turn head right as far as possible and hold for five seconds. Repeat to the left.
Side neck stretch: Push right hand toward the floor and bend head to the left. With the right hand, gently apply pressure to the left side of the head. Hold for 30 to 60 seconds. Repeat on the other side.
Shoulder circles: Slowly roll shoulders backward in big circles, then forward using the same motion.
Shoulder stretch: Pull your arm across your chest, elbow straight and palm out. Hold, relax and repeat with opposite arm.
Elbow press: Hold your hands up at the side of your head, with your upper arms parallel to the ground and a 90-degree bend at the elbow. Pull your arms back as far as they will go and hold. Then bring your upper arms, elbows and hands together and press. Hold and repeat.
