Lunar eclipse creates spectacular Colorado views
Published August 28, 2007 at midnight
Sound sleepers missed quite a show this morning.
Late-night rainshowers subsided and clouds disappeared from the Denver metro skies just in time for this year's second total lunar eclipse, which began shortly before 3 a.m.
The totality phase in all its colorful glory occurred at 3:54 a.m., when the moon was about halfway between the western horizon and the zenith the highest part of the sky.
The shadowy display took on an eerie glow as the minutes ticked toward dawn and the start of a new day. But by the time most commuters hit the road, the star of the show was long gone.
Feeling left out? Watch for an encore in February.
