1 pulls out, ex-mayor enters Arvada race
Published August 28, 2007 at midnight
The Arvada mayor's race took a major turn Monday when a 25-year-old carpet store employee ended his campaign and a former mayor joined the contest.
Brett Bauma, a design consultant for Carpet Exchange, announced that he will not run against incumbent Ken Fellman. Bauma launched his drive in January but did not raise any money, he said Monday. He said he decided to drop out because of the upcoming birth of his first child. Bauma said he plans to run for state office in the future.
Meanwhile, Robert Frie, who served as mayor prior to Fellman, submitted a petition Monday afternoon to run for the office, according to the city clerk's office.
Fellman, an attorney who was first elected in 1999, is seeking a third and final term as the city's mayor.
Fellman said, "I have been proceeding under the assumption that a great city like Arvada would attract at least one opponent in the mayoral race. I look forward to waging a campaign that will allow me to review for the voters all the progress the city has made over the last eight years."
The election is Nov. 6.
