Three keys
Key moments in the Rockies' 10-5 victory against the Washington Nationals on Sunday afternoon at Coors Field:
1 The Rockies scored six runs with two out in the third to build a 9-1 lead. First, Chris Iannetta doubled home a run. Elmer Dessens then walked for the second consecutive time, Kazuo Matsui doubled home Iannetta, and Troy Tulowitzki drove in two more with a single to short center. Matt Holliday followed with a two- run home run off Joel Hanrahan.
2 Dessens yielded a two-out homer to Ryan Zimmerman in the first but didn't allow another run or face any batter with a runner in scoring position. He retired the final 10 batters he faced, seven on groundballs.
3 Hanrahan walked four batters and gave up two runs in a 40-pitch second. Tulowitzki singled home the first run, and the second scored on Holliday's bases-loaded walk.
Etc.
Tulowitzki's career-high 11-game hitting streak is tied for the second longest by a National League rookie this year. Chicago's Mike Fontenot had a hit in 12 consecutive games June 17-30. While getting a hit in 18 of his past 20 games, Tulowitzki has gone 35- for-86 (.407) to raise his average from .272 to .296, the highest it has been since he was at .300 on April 3. . . . Aaron Cook, who is on the disabled list, threw 35 pitches in the bullpen with no pain in his left side and is scheduled to throw a simulated game Tuesday at San Francisco. . . . Todd Helton went 3- for-4 to raise his average to .303, the highest it has been since he was at that mark July 26. In his past 18 games, Helton has raised his average 10 points by going 24- for-67 (.358). . . . Dessens' six-inning start was his longest since he pitched six innings for the Dodgers on June 18, 2005, at the Chicago White Sox. . . . Iannetta took the roster spot of catcher Geronimo Gil, who was optioned to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox after going 1-for-14 with five strikeouts in five games, including three starts. . . . The Rockies have won seven straight games against the Nationals at Coors Field and have won three straight for the first time since winning three in a row from Milwaukee from Aug. 6-8.
Scouting report: San Francisco Giants
Series history: The Giants lead 127-96 overall, 76-37 in San Francisco and 44-24 at AT&T Park. The Rockies are 4-2 this year in AT&T Park, including a three- game series sweep May 25-27, when the teams last played.
Roster: Pitchers Russ Ortiz (right elbow strain) and Randy Messenger (broken left hand) are on the 15-day disabled list.
Quickly: The Giants have won four straight and eight of their past 10. . . . Brad Hennessey has saved 10 straight games beginning June 30, the longest streak by a Giants closer since Tyler Walker had 10 consecutive saves in 2005. The last Giants pitcher with more than 10 straight saves was Robb Nenn in 2002. . . . Barry Bonds, the all-time leader in home runs, with 761, has homered in three of his past seven and seven of his past 16 games, beginning with No. 755 on Aug. 4 at San Diego that tied him with Henry Aaron. . . . With 70 RBI, Bengie Molina needs six more to reach the second-highest total by a Giants catcher since the team moved to San Francisco. Dick Dietz holds that record, with 104 RBI in 1970, and six RBI will move Molina past A.J. Pierzyn- ski, who drove in 75 runs in 2004. . . . The Giants' 83 stolen bases are the most since they stole 100 bases in 1999.
