Center fielder Willy Taveras, above, will begin a rehabilitation assignment today with Triple-A Colorado Springs and play at Sacramento today, Tuesday and Wednesday. Taveras, recovering from a strained right quadriceps, will fly Thursday to Phoenix and be able to come off the disabled list Friday, the start of a series at Arizona.

NUMBERS GAME

16 -game hitting streak for Matt Holliday, a career high and the Rockies' longest since Garrett Atkins' 16-game streak Aug. 25 to Sept. 11, 2005. Holliday has reached base by hit, walk or hit by pitch in 32 consecutive games, three short of the club record set by Larry Walker in 2002 and matched by Todd Helton last year.

FAMILIAR FACE

Catcher Chris Iannetta went 2-for-5 with two RBI after being recalled from Colorado Springs, where he hit .296 (16-for-54) with one home run and seven RBI in 16 games. It was Iannetta's first multiple-hit and multiple-RBI game since June 28 at Houston.

Iannetta said he and Sky Sox hitting coach Carney Lansford looked at tape from last season and spring training, times when he was successful. And after about a week of frustration, Iannetta got back to that approach.

"I started getting aggravated and just swinging as hard as I possibly could in the cage and in soft-toss (drills)," Iannetta said. "Kind of got everything out, all the bad habits I created."

Those included a stance that was too open with his feet spread too wide and the bat resting on his shoulder.

Manager Clint Hurdle said of Iannetta, who was optioned Aug. 6 to the Sky Sox, "I wanted him to have fun, get in a comfortable place and see the ball and hit the ball. I think at times here, he just got too overanalytical offensively."
