POSEY, CELTICS STRIKE DEAL James Posey and the Celtics have agreed to terms of a deal that will bring the former Nuggets forward to Boston.
The 6-foot-8 Posey alternated with Antoine Walker as the sixth man when the Miami Heat won the NBA title in 2006.
FORD STOKES SHOCK Cheryl Ford scored 11 points, including a basket with 44 seconds remaining, and the Detroit Shock staved off elimination in the WNBA playoffs by beating the New York Liberty 76-73 on Sunday in Game 2 of their first-round Eastern Conference playoff series.
"I told our players that at some point in this game, 'Your heart will be severely tested' - and it was," Shock coach Bill Laimbeer said. "We got down to a point where it was an even ballgame, last minute and our season was on the line. But we made the right plays when we had to make the right plays."
VENEZUELA ADVANCES Maryland sophomore Greivis Vasquez had 18 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds to lead Venezuela to a 100-90 victory against the U.S. Virgin Islands, advancing to the second round of the FIBA Americas tournament in Las Vegas.
