NUMBERS GAME

5 rookies have hit grand slams in Rockies history. In addition to Ian Stewart, above, on Tuesday, the others were Jim Tatum and Jay Gainer in 1993, Matt Holliday in 2004 and Garrett Atkins twice in 2005.

SMALL GROUP

Troy Tulowitzki, who has hit 17 home runs, could become the fifth rookie shortstop to hit 20 home runs in a season. The other four won the Rookie of the Year award.

The last was Oakland's Bobby Crosby, who preceded Tulowitzki at Long Beach State and hit 22 homers in 2004.

The others (the home run totals are as shortstops only) are Nomar Garciaparra, 30 with Boston in 1997; Cal Ripken Jr., 20 with Baltimore in 1982; and Ron Hansen, 22 with Baltimore in 1960.

HE SAID IT

"I've already watched the growth that's happened in the five months from spring training, and I couldn't have told you that that's going to happen - as optimistic as you want to be. He shows up and does something a little bit better every day."

Clint Hurdle, Rockies manager, on Tulowitzki.
