Class A 8-man football top teams & players

Published August 23, 2007 at midnight

Top 10 teams

1 Granada: The defending champion returns largely intact and has the classification’s best quarterback.

2 Sedgwick County: The Lions proved worthy in their first year as a team. Big things appear likely if the chemistry holds up.

3 Stratton: The state runner-up has a big hole at quarterback, but Phillip May should fill the void.

4 Flagler: A disappointing first-round playoff exit has the Panthers motivated for this season.

5 Merino: This perennial powerhouse faltered a bit last season, but the Rams return well-stocked with talent.

6 Springfield: Competing in the same division as the defending champ is tough, but the Longhorns appear dangerous.

7 Simla: With a deeper roster to pull from this season, the Cubs seem ready to finally make some noise in 8-Man.

8 Haxtun: The Bulldogs took heavy hits at graduation, but opponents know better than to count them out of the state picture.

9 Sangre de Cristo: Jed Larsen is one of the state’s finest two-way players, making the Thunderbirds a threat.

10 Dayspring Christian: A near upset of Stratton in the playoffs and blazing team speed have coaches talking about the Eagles.
