More tickets available to see Beckham play

The Colorado Rapids will give more fans a chance to watch soccer icon David Beckham play his first game on the Front Range.

A limited number of standing- room-only tickets for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Galaxy will be placed on sale at 10 a.m. today by the Major League Soccer club.

The additional tickets cost $15 and can only be ordered by calling the Rapids' Ticket Hotline at 303-825-GOAL (4625) or by visiting the Dick's Sporting Goods Park box office in Commerce City. The game starts at 5 p.m. Sunday.

PIONEERS TV FSN Rocky Mountain will telecast 14 games featuring the University of Denver hockey team during the 2007-08 regular season.

The first telecast will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 4, when the Pioneers visit Minnesota. Other telecasts include North Dakota (Nov. 30, Feb. 15-16), St. Cloud State (Dec. 7-8), Wisconsin (Jan. 11-12), Alaska Anchorage (Feb. 22-23) and the Denver Cup title game (Dec. 29).

Also at area colleges:

David Stewart has been promoted to Nordic skiing coach at DU, replacing former coach Wolf Wallendorf.

Stewart, a former University of Vermont skier, served as an assistant coach under Wallendorf last year.

Cassie Bro has been hired as an assistant coach for the Air Force women's basketball team.

Former ThunderWolves athlete Dax Charles has been hired as the coach of the revived wrestling program at Colorado State-Pueblo.

AMATEUR ROUND University of Colorado athlete Michael Baird, a Douglas County High School graduate, shot an even-par 70 in the first round Monday at the U.S. Amateur Championship at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.

The second round Tuesday was suspended because of darkness.

Fort Collins resident Drew Stoltz is projected to miss the cut after a two-round total of 148. Pueblo West resident Zachary Zaremba fired a two-round 156.

TEAM TRIUMPH Barry Jennings, Jeff Capaldi, Tim Kassel and Blaine Jensen from Longmont's Fox Hill Country Club won the Colorado PGA Section's McGladrey Team Championship, combining for a 16-under 128 at Riverdale Golf Club in Brighton on Monday.

BALL SLAMS SKY SOX Jarred Ball's first-inning grand slam helped the Tucson Sidewinders to a 7-3 home victory Tuesday against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
