Jeffco balks at 1-track plan
Published August 22, 2007 at midnight
Jefferson County won't sign an agreement with RTD for the West Corridor light-rail line while it includes only a single track to the county government complex in Golden - putting RTD's federal grant hopes at higher risk.
The RTD board Tuesday - under the gun to approve a final package to submit for federal funding in two weeks - approved the single-track configuration from the Denver Federal Center to Golden.
That cut saves about $33 million for the over-budget FasTracks corridor.
Jeffco Commissioner Kevin McCasky told the board the commissioners won't sign on without more consideration of the county's proposal to add back about $3 million to build a second "passing track" that would permit RTD to operate trains every 10 minutes.
The current plan - single track with one section for passing - will only allow trains every 15 minutes.
