Drayton sparks Cherokee Trail
Bok pitches gem in 10-0 win over Indians in opener

AURORA - Opposing teams have a similar a scouting report on Albernice Drayton.
The gist of it is, if the speedy center fielder for the Cherokee Trail softball team gets a bunt down, it virtually is impossible to throw her out.
Asked if this assessment was accurate, the sophomore said: "Basically, yeah."
Drayton's blazing speed was on display Tuesday, the undoubted catalyst in the Cougars' season- opening 10-0 home win against Cheyenne Mountain in a Class 4A nonleague game.
The sixth-ranked Cougars broke open a tight game late and triumphed in six innings by virtue of the 10-run rule.
Drayton commonly could be seen scorching a trail around the basepaths, scoring three runs in a 2-for-3 performance that would have glittered more if not for a third-inning line drive that was caught by diving Cheyenne Mountain center fielder Casey Mohr.
"I'm happy," Drayton said. "She got lucky on that diving catch, so it's OK."
Drayton dropped down a bunt single in the first and scored on a passed ball.
During the Cougars' four-run fourth, she singled in a run, stole a base and scored again. Then, in the sixth, she drew a walk and scored again.
The beneficiary of the Cougars' offensive outburst - 14 hits, all singles, including three by Chelsea Holi - was starting pitcher Sarah Bok, who shut out the Indians on five hits.
Bok has waited in line for two years for the starting pitching job and was pleased with her debut as the ace.
"I think I could have done better with things like my movement," said Bok, who made two starts last season. "But for my first (varsity) game in about a year, I think I did pretty well."
Bok was saddled with an early jam when the Indians loaded the bases with one out in the first but caught a liner by Blake Rodriguez and turned it into a double play.
She also escaped a jam in the second but coasted from there.
"The thing is, we played pretty well for about five innings," Cheyenne Mountain coach Gary Krug said. "All of a sudden, when they got up four, we were a different team. I don't want to say we gave up but we caved in a little bit."
