Woman who preyed on Jeffco elderly gets 32 years
Published August 21, 2007 at midnight
A convicted identity thief didn't learn her lesson when she was sentenced to probation two years ago.
While on probation, Sarah Lynne Putnam Weaver, 28, continued to prey on elderly women at stores in Jefferson County, stealing their wallets.
R. Brooke Jackson, the same Jefferson County district court judge who sentenced Weaver to probation for a similar theft case in 2005, ordered the Lakewood woman Monday to spend 32 years behind bars. Weaver pleaded guilty last month to eight counts of felony theft from an at-risk adult and one count of forgery.
The crimes occurred from 2004 to 2006, prosecutors said. Authorities said she approached victims, ages 66 to 86, at stores and began speaking with them. She asked for their help to retrieve items from lower shelves. While the victims bent down to get the items for Putnam, she went through the women's purses, stealing wallets and checkbooks.
