Three keys
Key moments in the Rockies' 4-2, 11-inning loss against the Pirates at Coors Field on Monday night:
1 Left-hander Brian Fuentes, still trying to get in shape after six weeks on the disabled list, walked Cesar Izturis to open the 11th and, with one out, hit Matt Kata with a pitch, setting up the go-ahead single by Freddy Sanchez.
2 With one out and a runner on third in the sixth, Pirates right-hander Matt Morris struck out Ryan Spilborghs, then got out of the inning with a strikeout of Yorvit Torrealba.
3 After Troy Tulowitzki homered in the seventh for a 2-1 lead, reliever LaTroy Hawkins gave up a tying home run to pinch hitter Josh Phelps in the eighth. It was the fourth time Tulowitzki has hit a go-ahead home run, and in the next half inning, the bullpen blew a save.
Etc.
Right-hander Chaz Roe of Single-A Modesto was 2-0 with a 1.84 ERA last week, earning California League pitcher of the week honors. . . . Tulowitzki equaled his career-best with four hits, including his 16th home run and 14th since June 1. . . . Rockies second baseman Kazuo Matsui stole his 27th base of the season in the third inning. It was his 10th steal this month. . . . Todd Helton was held hitless, the first time he has failed to get a hit in the majors in the 10 times he has played on his birthday. The Rockies were off on his birthday in 2001. . . . Former Rockies right-hander Shawn Chacon, in his first appearance at Coors Field as a visiting player, had a five-pitch eighth inning and retired the Rockies in order in the ninth. It was only the fourth time in his past 12 appearances that Chacon has not given up a run. A graduate of Greeley Central High School and an All-Star selection for the Rockies in 2003, Chacon was traded by the Rockies to the New York Yankees two years ago for Ramon Ramirez and Eduardo Sierra.
