Denver Marathon adds celebs

Published August 20, 2007 at midnight

Forget dancing with the stars - Coloradans will soon be able to run with them.

The Denver Marathon plans to announce today its first Celebrity Inspiration Run on the same day as the marathon, Oct. 14.

The event is aimed at inspiring "everyday runners" and raising money for charity.

Thirteen celebrities plan to participate, including former Denver Bronco Bill Romanowski; Alex Smith, cast member of MTV's Real World Denver; Scott Elrod, cast member of ABC's Men in Trees; Jake Schroeder, lead singer of the band Opie Gone Bad; Marni Rachich, "Peekaboo Screech" of the Denver Roller Dolls; Vic Lombardi, CBS 4 News sportscaster; Maggie Ireland, Miss Colorado 2007; and Chris Anthony, an extreme skier and star of 17 Warren Miller films.

Each celebrity will run about 2 miles in a relay totaling 26.2 miles.

People will be able to bid online for a shot at running alongside a star and attending a dinner with the celebrity the night before the race. All proceeds will benefit the celebrity's charity of choice.

The auction will be held at beginning Sept. 28 and ending Oct. 7. Additional celebrity runners will be announced the week before the auction.
