Mexico favors youth for Colombia match

Mexican national soccer coach Hugo Sanchez selected a youthful personality for his team's exhibition match Wednesday against Colombia at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.

The team announced Friday includes no one who plays for clubs in Europe and only four players older than 23 - Gerardo Torrado of Cruz Azul, Jaime Correa of Pachuca CF, and Jonny Magallon and Omar Bravo of CD Guadalajara.

The match will start at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at TicketHorse.com, at the stadium box office and at Dick's Sporting Goods stores.

BACKYARD RIVALRY The Colorado College and Air Force Academy women's soccer teams will play an exhibition match at 5 p.m. today at the Cadet Soccer Stadium on the Academy campus.

FALCONS TO BEGIN PRACTICE The Air Force men's basketball team will begin practicing today in preparation for a five- game exhibition tour next month in British Columbia.

The Falcons will play games Sept. 1 against Trinity Western and Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The team will play the Vancouver All-Stars amateur team in New Westminster, British Columbia, and the University of British Columbia on Sept. 2 in Vancouver.

The Falcons will close their trip against University College of the Fraser Valley on Sept. 3 in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

At other area college basketball programs:

The University of Denver men's team will begin its 2007- 08 season at the College Hoops Classic on Nov. 8-9 in Norman, Okla., and start its home season Nov. 13 against Wyoming at Magness Arena.

Also, the Pioneers will host Colorado (Nov. 27) and Northern Colorado (Dec. 8) and visit Colorado State (Dec. 5) under new coach Joe Scott.

The CSU men's team will begin its season Nov. 9 at Montana and play its first home game Dec. 5, against DU, under new coach Tim Miles.

The Rams will play non- Mountain West Conference games at Stanford (Nov. 24), Minnesota (Dec. 8) and Nevada (Dec. 19).

Miles also will take the Rams to his previous school, North Dakota State, on Dec. 15 before hosting CU on Dec. 22 at Moby Arena.

The Wyoming men's team begins its schedule Nov. 10 at the Arena-Auditorium against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs before hosting CU (Dec. 18) and visiting Wichita State (Nov. 24) under new coach Heath Schroyer.

TRANSFER TO CSU Discus thrower Missy Faubus, a junior bronze medalist at the Pan American Games in Brazil, has decided to transfer from California to CSU, Rams track coach Brian Bedard announced.

COACH HONORED Air Force Academy assistant baseball coach Chandler Rose was named coach of the year in the summer Northwoods League after serving as a third base coach with the Alexandria Beetles in Minnesota.

PHINNEY VICTORY Boulder cyclist Taylor Phinney finished first at the UCI Junior World Time Trial Championship on Aug. 9 in Aguascalientes, Mexico, in a 28-kilometer race.

EAGLES TV The Central Hockey League's Colorado Eagles and Altitude Sports & Entertainment have announced a broadcast agreement through the 2009-10 season.

Under the deal, the cable channel will televise at least five regular-season games each year and one game from each playoff round.
