Sterling man killed in collision with semi

Published August 17, 2007 at midnight

A Sterling man was killed yesterday after his car ran a stop sign and hit a semi in Logan County, the Colorado State Patrol said today.

Rodney J. DeLong, 60, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Logan County coroner, Trooper Gilbert Mares said in a press release.

Troopers said DeLong was driving westbound about 3:40 p.m. on Logan County Road 24 approaching County Road 35 when his 1992 Buick Park Avenue collided with a 1999 Sterling Truck Tractor.

The driver of the semi — Cody R. Henry, 32, of Merino — was treated for minor injuries at Sterling Regional Medical Center, the patrol said. Henry was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Alcohol, drugs and speed are not suspected as contributing factors in the accident.
