N.J. case interests Aarone detectives

But police say body unlikely to be Aurora girl's

Aurora police investigating the Aaroné Thompson case are talking to New Jersey law enforcement about the body of an unidentified little girl found by a hunter two years ago.

The girl in New Jersey would have been roughly the same age as Aaroné, but Aurora officials caution they have no reason to think the body is hers.

"We do not believe their case is in any way connected to ours," Aurora police spokesman Marcus Dudley said Wednesday.

Aaroné's father, Aaron Thompson, reported her missing from his Aurora home in November 2005. She would have been 6 at the time.

In May, Thompson was indicted on 60 counts, including child abuse resulting in Aaroné's death. He has not entered a formal plea but in the past has proclaimed his innocence.

Aurora police say Aaroné was killed up to 18 months before she was reported missing.

New Jersey State Police on Monday released a composite drawing of a girl, who they say is probably black, between 5 and 9 years old and may have died between 2001 and 2004. The cause of death is unknown.

The body was discovered in 2005 when a hunter in Clayton Park found the skull. An excavation uncovered a complete skeleton and "a child's black Nike Air Force One shoe and a piece of canvas material, possibly from a handbag or book bag, with a distinctive print of Sylvester the Cat," according to police.
