Cops: No 'X' sold from house

Published August 16, 2007 at midnight

BOULDER — Officers who dismantled a suspected Ecstasy lab in south Boulder this week said there's no indication the two suspects had sold any of the drugs before the raid.

Detectives began investigating suspected drug activity in a home bordering Summit Middle School after receiving a tip, said Lt. Steve Prentup of the Boulder County Drug Task Force. He wouldn't elaborate on who informed police, but he said the residents may not have sold Ecstasy before the Tuesday bust.

And despite officers' finding enough chemicals in the house to produce up to 80,000 doses, Prentup said it "would be real optimistic" to say they have found Boulder's primary source of the club drug.

They caught what could have been a major provider of the drug — which has regained popularity in Boulder County in the past year — early in the lab's inception, he said.

Richard Irvin, an attorney representing Debra Cerio, 41, told Boulder County Judge John Stavely yesterday that his client asked to take a drug test before her court appearance because "she doesn't do those things."

Nearby residents say Cerio and the second suspect, Carl Dubois, 29, were typical neighbors.

Longtime neighborhood resident James Ellman said he occasionally saw them walking together, sometimes holding hands.

"They kept to themselves," he said, adding that they would say "hi" in passing.

Ellman said he's not concerned about safety in his neighborhood despite the raid.

"I think this is more of a fluke than anything," he said. "I've lived here more than 24 years, and there's never been a problem."
