Buffs LB in court today in brawl case

Published August 16, 2007 at midnight

CU inside linebacker Michael Sipili will appear in court in Boulder this afternoon on assault charges.

Sipili, who started two games for the Buffs last season, has said he "feels horrible" about a June brawling incident that led to his arrest and indefinite suspension.

"I feel bad for my mistake. I let my team down," the sophomore said earlier this month.

According to Boulder police, Sipili and CU sophomore defensive tackle Chris Perri fought with another pair of men after Perri allegedly made an offensive remark to a woman.

That prompted a confrontation between the 6-4, 275-pound Perri and one of the other men. Sipili, 6-1 and 250, came to Perri's aid and is accused of tackling and punching John Antrim, a 22-year-old CU student.

The police report said Antrim required surgery in late June for three facial fractures.

Sipili was arrested on suspicion of criminal mischief and second-degree assault.

Perri was suspended for three games.
