8.4 million tons of carbon dioxide were emitted last year in the U.S. alone from making, filling and shipping millions of plastic bottles for bottled water. The amount is equal to the output of 2.2 million cars.

AMERICA'S WORK FORCE
45 percent of the labor force was made up of workers 55 and older in 2006, up from 38 percent in 1993.
20.3 percent of male workers were 65 and older; women 65 and older make up 11.7 percent.
9.64 million workers were self-employed as of April, a 10 percent increase in the past five years, when 8.77 million self-employed workers made up the labor force. Baby boomers are leading the trend.
