Biker loses leg in crash, keeps riding
Published August 15, 2007 at midnight
TOKYO A Japanese motorcyclist rode for more than a mile without noticing half his right leg was amputated in a collision with a safety barrier.
The Mainichi Shimbun newspaper said the office worker was riding with friends in Hamamatsu, west of Tokyo, Monday when he lost control on a curve and hit the barrier.
The 54-year-old man felt excruciating pain, the newspaper said, but didn't notice his leg was missing below the knee until he stopped at the next intersection.
A friend retrieved the crushed body part, which was taken to a hospital along with the rider, Reuters reported.
The man's condition was not immediately available.
