7-Eleven clerk remains in serious condition

The 7-Eleven clerk shot at the 16th Street Mall Sunday afternoon remains in serious but stable condition in the surgical intensive-care unit, a Denver Health spokesperson said today.

Ali Bashir Abu Zama, 37, was shot in the head Sunday after an apparent confrontation with a customer. He was taken to Denver Health in critical condition.

According to witnesses, Abu Zama, a native of the Sudan, asked a man to leave the store just before 4 p.m. Sunday. The man returned 15 minutes later and shot the clerk in th forehead at close range.

Broderick Jermaine Roddy, 22, was arrested a few blocks away.
