Summer's last scorcher breaks the record
Published August 13, 2007 at midnight
It may have been one degree shy of triple digits, but todays high temperature was still record-breaking.
The 99 degree mark was measured at DIA at 12:52 p.m., said CBS4s Ed Greene. The previous high was 96 degrees in 1996. Its the sixth time Denver highs have tied or broken records this summer.
The forecast calls for more hot weather, though no more scorchers are predicted.
"Chances are we probably wont break a whole lot more records this week," Greene said. "We have a big ridge of high pressure that just sitting there. Thats allowing a hot air mass to just continue to reheat."
He thinks the ridge will shift and allow for showers to move into the area during the week.
Thats good news for Scott Thomas, 20, who was working security
at Elitch Gardens during the blazing heat.
Donning shiny black lace-up shoes, navy blue pants and a crisp
button-up shirt, Thomas was dawdling beneath misters that offered sweet
relief.
"When its hot like this, most people hang out in the water park, get a tan," he said. "Sometimes when Im up there in the water park, its so hot. Theres no shade, and you know, I get jealous of the people swimming in there."
